Helping Individuals Heal

Radically Transforming Communities

People living in poverty deserve more.

That’s what drives us. The people we serve are stuck in a cycle of generational poverty and they deserve to have the opportunity for more. We believe that everyone deserves love, care, and the chance to share their light with the world. Our goal is to take people out of survival mode so they can begin to heal their communities from within.

Who We Serve

We serve families in rural Indian villages and slums, meeting their physical and emotional needs so they can become healthy and strong. We work with each community individually to educate and train up young leaders who will one day change the future for their families.

We serve girls and boys in our two residential Dream Homes, where we provide education and training so these children can break the cycle of poverty and create a life of opportunity for themselves.

Community programs that include meal programs, literacy classes, therapeutic dance classes, business training and counseling to address spiritual and mental health. We adjust our programming based on the needs of each specific community.

Holistic Care

Two residential homes provide holistic care for children who had to be removed from abusive or dangerous situations in their slum or village. Along with education, healthy food, life skills and emotional support, each child receives counseling for complex trauma.

Continued Support

Continued support for our Dream Home graduates while they work to establish careers—because you don’t age-out of needing family.

Our History

SEED Society in India formed in 2009 to address the urgent physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of residents living in the extreme poverty of the Indian slum of Khalpar. With their most basic needs addressed, we began to see the cycles of abuse, neglect and learned-helplessness fall away—people began to act from a place of hope.

Previously, One Life International (U.S.) was the American partner of SEED Society in India. In 2019, under new management, One Life International became Seed India in order to provide greater transparency and more clearly align with the goals, values and visions for the future of our Indian counterpart.

We now have a presence in Kantapukur, Nalpur, Basirhat, Goborda, Karunamoyee and Saluka, providing similar types of community programming as our original Khalpar project: meal programs, literacy classes, therapeutic dance classes, business trainings, and counseling to address spiritual and mental health of people living in poverty.

Along with our work directly within communities, we run two residential homes—The Dream Home for Girls (2016) and The Dream Home for Boys (2018)—that provide holistic care for children who had to be removed from abusive or dangerous situations in their slum or village. Because we know it’s easier to raise strong children than fix broken adults, we provide trauma counseling, healthy food, medical care, life skills and education to support the next generation of powerful community leaders.

A 20-22% increase in the literacy rates of other rural and slum community programs.

50 girls are currently receiving excellent care at The Dream Home for Girls, and we are so proud of the young women that are now educated and employed.

45 boys are currently receiving excellent care at The Dream Home for Boys—many having already become graduates and young professionals.
